Introduction of Margy Rydynzki as a new advisor to Support Arlington Center
Margy is the the founder of Arlington Entrepreneurs, and SAC is thrilled to have her as a key member of the SAC. Learn more about Margy.
Town Day, September 17, 2016
Support Arlington Center will be represented at the Department of Planning and Community Development booth at Town Day (booth #188, between Court and Water Street). Representatives from SAC will be there all day to answer any questions and keep you informed. Please stop by and say hello! Read more about the details of our booth at Town Day.
Cash Mob
Support Arlington Center is looking into creating a “cash mob” where residents and supporters all gather and shop at a specific Arlington Center business, on a certain day and time. Essentially, “mobbing” the store with business. The store(s) will be aware of this plan and will be prepared. A date and a location will be determined soon. Fill out our survey about the Cash Mob.
SAC Public Meeting
Support Arlington Center and the Town Officials are working to make the SAC public meeting productive and informative. Our planned date for such a meeting will be November/December 2016. Stay tuned for a specific date soon. In this meeting, the Town will discuss a possible fee structure for businesses with empty storefronts, as well as members and friends of Support Arlington Center proposing ideas to bring vitality into the center.
20 Questions by the Community
The Town is carefully answering the 20 questions that the community has asked. It is in a draft form currently and once it is finalized, it will be shared with the public. Stay tuned.
Empty Storefronts
There is good news coming to some empty storefronts in Arlington Center. Elite Freestyle Karate plans to move into the 5 Medford Street location of what was Wild Child. Stay tuned for its opening day, perhaps by September/October. The property of CVS may be filled soon as well, information about this is promising but still in development and not public, but we are hopeful that the community may be pleased with the new business. Stay tuned for more details to come on this front. Other empty storefronts, specifically on Mass Ave (across from Starbucks) and the old Madrona Tree has no movement as of now.
Punjab
SAC is inquiring / following up with the status of Punjab. We heard it was opening in September, we are hopeful that this is still in the works, but renovation is still happening. Stay tuned for more updates on Punjab and its eagerly awaited re-opening.
Paving/sidewalks
The paving work and sidewalk fixes should be completed by winter. This has been a real challenge for people to navigate, specifically on the corners of Pleasant Street and Mass Ave and Mystic Street and Mass Ave, but by winter months, the paving should be completed. The Town is working hard to make this happen as fast and as carefully as possible.
Massachusetts Avenue Phase II Streetscape Vision Plan Meeting
This public meeting will be held on September 22, 2016 at 7:00 pm at Town Hall Auditorium (730 Massachusetts Ave). This is a great opportunity for members of Support Arlington Center to voice their thoughts about the future plans to develop the streets within Arlington Center, specifically in areas around Broadway Plaza and in front of Town Hall. Review the flyer and come to this meeting.
Support Arlington Center will be meeting again with Town Officials to follow up on matters on Friday, October 7, 2016.
